These prayer blankets are sewn in the kantha style, handstitched in a women's mission, in a rural area of the Bengal region of India, near Bangladesh. The tradition of Kantha quilting began before 1500BC. Poor women needed blankets for their babies, so they sourced for the softest parts of their old cotton saris and sewed them together with running stitches. These fabrics were considered “rags”. They were often worn out, flawed, imperfect and discarded. These unwanted remnants were now sought out, cleaned up and given new purpose as a beautiful, unique quilt.
Ephesians 2:10 says “We are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do good things He planned for us long ago.” Much like these rags, we often feel worn out, overlooked, unwanted, unloved and unworthy. However, when we give ourselves over to Him, He turns our flaws and imperfections into a beautiful new creation.
Members of our team have prayed over this blanket specifically for its recipient- you! Whenever you feel alone, confused, anxious, fearful, sad or even happy, wrap up in this blanket and remember that you are loved, chosen, made for a purpose, and God's masterpiece, created in His image!
These quilts are made from vintage cotton fabric quilted together with small running stitches, by hand. Imperfections, blemishes, fading or small stains are expected and contribute to the unique beauty of each piece. No two are alike. It takes a woman 5-12 days to complete each blanket.
The kantha style of quilting does not include knotted threads. You may see a long thread end on your quilt. Please know this is normal for this style. If it bothers you simply knot it and cut it shorter.
These blankets are reversible and both sides are made of 100% vintage cotton.
The average dimensions are approximately 85x55 inches ( 216 X 139 cm ). Minor variations are expected due to the handcrafted nature of the item.
There is no batting, which makes for a lightweight blanket, perfect for cold church pews, prayer closets, hospital rooms, and more. They've been used as bedspreads, tablecloths, picnic blankets, wall hanging, ceiling drapes, curtains and so much more. We would love to hear how you use yours.
